Scot Yoxall – Principal Chiropractor
Tell us a bit about you?
I grew up locally and I’ve been the Principal Chiropractor in our practice in Caerphilly since 2003, it’s hard to believe I’ve been here that long as I’ve genuinely loved being here and being part of the community for so long – I’d also like to think that I don’t look old enough to have been here that long but I’m not convinced that’s true anymore!
Why are you a Chiropractor?
I always wanted to do something medical but never fancied medicine, I also wanted something I could combine with sport. I played a lot of sport growing up mainly rugby and I suppose a few injuries led me to Chiropractic and I couldn’t be more grateful for getting to do a job I love!
What do you like about being a Chiropractor?
I originally wanted to be a Chiropractor to allow me to combine my work with my other passion which was sport. I suppose growing up and my life-changing has changed me and whilst I still really enjoy working with sportspeople and athletes, having kids of my own has led me to see the significance and importance of treating my wife through her pregnancies and my boys as they grow. I’m really lucky I get to combine this in my day to day work looking after the little ones in our practice before they actually get here by looking after their mums to be and them when they arrive and also to continue working with some of our more athletic practice members through their careers and helping them manage their bodies after their adventures – much like I have to do myself!.
I’ve also been lucky to have spent over 12 years lecturing in the Chiropractic Degree program and I really enjoy developing the next generation of Chiropractors, and now work a lot with our team to ensure we are all always developing our skills and learning
What do you do outside of work?
I’ve always loved sport in lots of shapes and forms, I played a lot of rugby and cricket previously though now my playing is mainly focused on golf but I still enjoy being competitive. I’m lucky to have 2 fantastic boys who keep us busy and the boys seem to have taken on my love of sport, so I enjoy watching and helping them and coaching the teams they play in. As a family we love being outdoors, days at the beach are a favourite and we’ve done a little bit of paddleboarding and sea kayaking which we’ve really enjoyed!
I also enjoy a bit of cooking especially outdoors finishing a day at the beach with a beach BBQ is fantastic, and I’ve also got into pizza making at home!
Tell us an interesting fact about you!
I really don’t think you should be allowed to put pineapple on a pizza – though my family don’t agree on this!
Emma Conroy – Principal Chiropractor
Tell us a bit about you?
I’m originally from Dublin but have spent pretty much my entire adult life in South Wales, and I’m lucky to now have 2 places I can call home!. I’ve been a Chiropractor since 2003 and worked in Newport for a few years before becoming the Principal Chiropractor in Blackwood practice in 2007, and I have always found the people in the practice and locally to be fantastic to work with.
Why are you a Chiropractor?
I didn’t always know what I wanted to do and prior to going to university to study Chiropractic went to college in Ireland and it was there that I knew that Chiropractic was going to be my future. That’s a decision I have never regretted and feel fortunate that I have chosen a path that keeps me interested, occupied and enthused to keep making a difference in peoples lives.
What do you like about being a Chiropractor?
As a mum myself to two amazing boys and having experienced firsthand the benefits of Chiropractic care during my pregnancies and seen the benefits for my own children, I have found that my true passion and drive is in the care of babies and their pregnant mums. I completed the Webster Technique program and have completed a number of post graduate courses in pregnancy and paediatrics. For me there is no better feeling than to have the amazing little people and their little personalities that fill our clinic with smiles and laughter.
What do you do outside of work?
Outside of work, for me family time is the most important thing in the world. My boys are typical boys non-stop and into everything, but there’s no better feeling than spending time with them and watching them learn and grow. As a family we love the outdoors and its one of the things that I really love about my second home is the fantastic beaches and amazing places and scenery we are lucky to get to enjoy!
Tell us an interesting fact about you!
I once spent a week as a crew member sailing a tall ship from across the Irish sea, thankfully it was in the summer!
Joseph Thomas – Associate Chiropractor
Tell us a bit about you?
I’m a local boy, I grew up and still live in Blackwood. I’ve always loved this part of the world and have been lucky enough to grow up here, study here and now further my career here.
Why are you a Chiropractor?
I always played rugby growing up and found Chiropractic after developing a shoulder injury. After experiencing the benefits of Chiropractic care and seeing the results personally I knew I had to become a Chiropractor myself, I suppose I wanted to make people feel like I felt and make the difference for other people that I had experienced.
What do you like about being a Chiropractor?
I have always enjoyed sport and really enjoy being part of a team that is dedicated to helping and making a difference in peoples lives. My personal experience of Chiropractic care was fantastic but now seeing the difference Chiropractic can make for others, I know I definitely made the right decision to become a Chiropractor in the first place. Getting to meet, know and make a difference in the lives of so many people is something a I really enjoy and am grateful for!
What do you do outside of work?
Some people might say I’m a little competitive so on the weekends you’ll generally catch me either at a rugby match or on the golf course, another keen sporting interest of mine is F1 – which takes up most of my Sundays!
Tell us an interesting fact about you!
Not my proudest moment but I once used Acnecide instead of toothpaste – in my defence who would leave Acnecide by a toothbrush!
Sam Tiley – Associate Chiropractor
Tell us a bit about you?
I was born in Bristol and came across to Wales to study in the Welsh Institute of Chiropractic. I chose to come to South Wales as I could combine my two great loves Chiropractic and Rugby. I have played rugby since the age of 12 and was lucky enough to play through the Bristol Academy before I transferred across to Beddau RFC, upon my arrival in the sunny valleys. I also have experience in martial arts and a variety of other sports.
Why are you a Chiropractor?
I have wanted to be a Chiropractor since the age of 14 when I experienced the incredible benefits of treatment through my own sporting injuries and also through my mother’s experience of Chiropractic care. I was able to appreciate the impact Chiropractic care can have not just on athletes but on families overall through improving the quality of life for families as a whole. This is where my passion for maximising quality of life originated from. I am now a Chiropractor because I can enable people to take control of their lives and step away from restrictions such as pain and fear.
What do you like about being a Chiropractor?
I really enjoy working as a Chiropractor as it allows me to help such a huge variety of people. In addition, my love for sports and Chiropractic have become a natural union, one of my real passions is the treatment of athletes and sportsmen and women, fortunately, in 2020 I was awarded the International Federation of Sports Chiropractic Student Scholarship and I completed my post graduate studies in 2023. As I qualified International Sports Chiropractor I am now travelling internationally to attend events and treat athletes. This allows me not just to reduce pain but maximise strength, accuracy and performance through my care.
What do you do outside of work?
My other passion is rugby and I play for Beddau RFC, this and work do take up the bulk of my time but outside of that I am a dog lover and live with two dogs – Norman the Springer Spaniel and Ella the rescue German Shepard.
Interesting fact
Going through school I enjoyed performing arts, I was in various musicals and other performances and got an A Level in Drama and Theatre Studies.
Courtney Francis – Chiropractor
Tell us a bit about you?
I am a proud local valleys girl, I grew up in the Rhondda and love living in South Wales.
Why are you a Chiropractor?
Growing up I always knew I wanted to be in a job where I could help people day in day out. I have always been a keen sportsperson, dance, netball, karate and swimming to name a few. Seeing the impact chiropractic care was having on my sports performance and also seeing how Chiropractic care helped my dad who has suffered with back pain for years really helped me know that I wanted to become a Chiropractor.
What do you like about being a Chiropractor?
For me there is nothing better than seeing people improving. Simple daily tasks that were once a struggle, are no longer a struggle. Things like being able to walk up the stairs, or put their own shoes and socks on, getting on the floor to play with their children, it really is something when a patient says you’ve changed their life.
What do you do outside of work?
I am very family orientated! Outside of work you will often find me spending time with the family, whether that’s a cuppa and a catch up, or in the outdoors. I also love reading so it’s not unusual for me to have a book in my hands.
Tell us an interesting fact about you!
I have danced competitively, nationally and internationally, in the UK and abroad at the World Championships in Florida.
Aleesha Brain – Chiropractor
Tell us a bit about you?
I was born and brought up locally, though I did leave Wales for a few years when I was studying Chiropractic at the AECC in Bournemouth, but I always knew I wanted to come back to Wales to work.
Why are you a Chiropractor?
I worked previously in sports rehabilitation and worked alongside Chiropractors, from them I learnt about Chiropractic and I saw the difference it made and I was amazed at how it worked. At this point I started getting adjusted by Chiropractors myself and I saw the benefits of Chiropractic care personally. Experiencing this myself and working alongside Chiropractors I knew that I wanted to become a Chiropractor myself.
What do you like about being a Chiropractor?
From a young age I knew I wanted to work in healthcare but it took me while to work out exactly what I wanted to do. I find being a Chiropractor really rewarding, it’s a privilege to be able to have a positive impact on peoples health and their life, for me I couldn’t ask for much more.
What do you do outside of work?
I enjoy spending time with my friends, I love going to gigs and festivals. I also enjoy going to the gym, yoga and hiking up the beautiful Welsh mountains.

Ellie Rogers – Chiropractor
Tell us a bit about you?
Although I’m originally from Gloucester, I really consider South Wales home! I moved here to study to become a Chiropractor, after just a year here I fell in love with South Wales and knew I wanted to stay and couldn’t be happier with my decision to stay.
Why are you a Chiropractor?
I decided to become a chiropractor after receiving chiropractic treatment when I was 16 after injuring my back whilst playing basketball. I knew I loved sports and science but at that age I had no idea what I wanted to do. I really enjoyed going to the Chiropractor and found my adjustment visits fascinating. Every session I would constantly ask my chiropractor about what he was doing and why he was doing it. Through my initial course of care I absolutely fell in love with the idea of one day becoming a Chiropractor myself. Now here I am, doing what I love.
What do you like about being a Chiropractor?
Everything! I thoroughly enjoy helping people, reducing the pain and improving their function. As well as bringing back quality of life and helping people do what they love. I also enjoy the seeing the progress people make week in and week out and how much of a difference we get to make.
What do you do outside of work?
I love playing basketball, even though it’s how I initially injured my back, I’ve never given the sport up because it is my passion and it also helped me find my other passion – Chiropractic. I currently play for Caerphilly Cobras and love being part of a team. I also enjoy going for coffee with friends and going to lots of gigs and festivals all over the UK.
Tell us an interesting fact about you!
I represented England in an international basketball tournament in Poland when I was 15.
